ACTION CALL: F20/250/1 Post-harvest handling and processing of fresh produce.

Our client, a global agricultural producer and food and beverage manufacturer, is looking for expertise and advancements in post-harvest handling and processing technology to support the control of fresh-produce ripening and maximising shelf-life. Also of interest are technologies and processes that can enhance its product development innovation pipeline for value-added products.

Post-harvest handling and processing of fresh produce.

One of the significant challenges with fresh produce is undoubtedly the control of its shelf-life, which is inherently linked to the ability to control the ripening process whilst optimising the taste and texture. Our client is looking to identify processes and technologies that can help with the management of these key aspects through new and emerging technologies targeted at post harvest handling and processing of produce. The technologies of interest include, but are not limited to:

  • Ripening inhibition and control through physical of chemical means.
  • Coating systems.
  • Advances in Modified Atmospheres for fresh produce.
  • Non-destructive testing to monitor shelf-life.

As part of this project Aurora Ceres is also looking at how value can be added to fresh produce through the application of new and emerging technologies. These could include processes which:

  • Enhance the commercial viability of processed Ready To Eat (RTE) options
  • Enable added value product extensions.

Examples could include advances in High Pressure Processing (HPP) or Individual Quick Freezing (IQF) processes.

Early stage research and development are of particular interest for all aspects of this project however to commercially available solutions will also be considered.
