Our client, a global food and beverage manufacturer and producer of seed oil, is looking to identify technologies that can valourise the process waste from its seed-oil manufacture.
Seed-Oil Waste Valourisation
Aurora Ceres is looking to identify processes which could be utilises to increase the value of seed-oil waste. This by-product, often called ‘oil-cake’, ‘mill-waste’ or ‘pomace’ is believed to be nutrient rich, although in its unprocessed form, it is considered to be low value when compared to the extracted oil, as it is a ‘woody’, unpalatable if not inedible, pulp.
The range of manufacturing processes which may be suitable, include, but are not limited to:
- Digestion
- Extraction
- Fermentation.
- Re-purposing
The by-product is believed to be rich in:
- Fibre
- Nutrients such as anthocyanins and antioxidants
- Oil rich
- Protein
Traditional, emerging and existing processes and technologies will all be considered. Whilst all stages of technology readiness will be considered, it is anticipated that concept development and feasibility trials work will have been completed and results made available.
