Our client, a global agricultural producer and food and beverage manufacturer, is looking for expertise and advancements in the development of active coatings for fruit and vegetables. The active coatings that are of interest will help manage post-harvest handling, support the control of fresh-produce ripening and help maximise shelf-life. Such coatings will help add value and reduce waste.
Active coatings for fruit and vegetables.
One of the significant challenges with fresh produce is undoubtedly the control of its shelf-life, which is inherently linked to the ability to control the ripening process whilst optimising the taste and texture. Our client is looking to identify new and emerging active coatings for fruit and vegetables that can help with the management of these key aspects. The coating technologies of interest include, but are not limited to:
- Anti-bacterial.
- Ethylene filtering, inhibiting or scavenging.
- Moisture control.
- Oxygen barriers.
- Ripening retardation.
Early stage research and development are of particular interest for all aspects of this project however to commercially available solutions will also be considered. All solutions must be suitable for use in food.
